Food

I often get asked by many people about what I eat and what they should eat to get in better shape, improve athletic performance or to help get ready for the contest stage. The first thing I suggest, before any supplementation or changes in exercise routine, is to improve their nutrition on a day-to-day basis.

In preparing for contests over my career, I have found several foods which can help with:

  • Cravings
  • Eating healthy while traveling
  • Being able to eat healthy everyday while at work
  • Having variety while eating healthy so you won’t be bored eating the same foods everyday
  • Several other benefits
  • Reducing costs while attempting to eat better

 

While the typical recommendation of adequate water intake, eating a good amount of proper vegetables and other greens, and adequate protein intake usually need to be addressed there sometimes are other food items which can help. Gym Equipment

Quite often I get stopped by people at the gym and outside of the gym and they ask me for suggestions on particular exercises. As a certified personal trainer, I like to help clients by customizing a routine based on their goals, limitations and prior medical history.

Supplements

Most people who are into weight training, and even those who are novices, often ask right away about supplements. While the traditional response is to say that supplements are just that, to “supplement” food intake, I actually do use supplements along with my nutrition plan. This is both for when I am preparing for a contest as well as during the “off season”.

Many of the supplements you see recommended here are used for specific purposes such as:

Rest And Recovery

One of the best ways for any person wishing to improve his or her condition, let alone to bring a terrific physique onto a contest stage, is to improve the quality of rest and recovery. Whenever you are making tremendous strides forward with your training, you are subject to a trade-off which most people don’t know. Your rest and recovery ability often get taxed to the point where you could lose lean muscle, endure the consequences of diminished sleep and even increase the risk of injury.
